Located in Irving, Jefferson Texas Plaza is a nine-acre residential apartment complex built by JPI, consisting of 282 individual units and a broad selection of amenities. The scope of our work at Jefferson Texas Plaza was based around the installation of wet utilities — we handled sewer, water, fire protection, and storm drain.
Due to the layout of the job site, our sewer work at Jefferson Texas Plaza ended up being much deeper than usual. We had to install sewer lines 20-25 feet deep to bore beneath a large water line that was already running through the site.
Then, at the spot where our sewer actually ended, there was a 20-inch high-pressure gas main and a bunch of fiber lines that we had to dig around. When you throw in the fact that the soil conditions on this site weren’t very good to begin with, it was a major challenge to get the sewer installed safely.
Overall, Moss Utilities installed 3,100 LF of water, 2,600 LF of sewer, 6,300 LF of storm drainage, and 500 LF of off-site sewer. To keep our crews safe, we used trench boxes and benched sloping to maintain the structural integrity of our trenches. We worked on this project from May to July 2019, and we completed our work on time and on budget.
Humberto “Chacho” Lozano did an amazing job as the foreman on the Jefferson Texas Plaza project. He kept his crew on schedule despite a number of challenges, and we wouldn’t have had such high-quality results on this job without his efforts.
